Grambling State Coach Mickey Joseph Focused on Fixing Offensive Struggles During Bye Week
Grambling State head football coach Mickey Joseph is not one to dwell on a tough loss. After a grueling five-overtime defeat to Prairie View A&M, Joseph is already looking ahead to the bye week as an opportunity to address the Tigers’ offensive struggles.
The focus will be on quarterback Myles Crawley, who despite leading the SWAC in passing yards and touchdowns, has been inconsistent in recent games. Joseph plans to work on improving the run game, RPO, and protection for Crawley during the break.
“We’re going to go back to the drawing board,” Joseph said. “We may need to adjust our protection to give Myles more time in the pocket. We’ll also be reshuffling our play calling to find what works best for our offense.”
Grambling currently ranks second in the SWAC in points per game but is lagging behind in passing and rushing yards. Joseph emphasized the need for accountability and self-reflection among the players to address these issues.
As the Tigers prepare to face Alcorn State, Joseph is confident in his team’s ability to bounce back and compete for a spot in the SWAC championship game.
“We still have our opportunity,” Joseph said. “Pressure is a privilege, and we’re going to embrace it. I believe something good is on the horizon for this team.”
With a renewed focus and determination, Grambling State is ready to make the necessary adjustments during the bye week and come back stronger than ever for the remainder of the season.
