Southern Safety Herman Brister Speaks Out After Jaguars’ Humbling Loss to Nicholls
Southern safety Herman Brister did not mince words in the wake of the Jaguars’ crushing 51-7 loss to Nicholls on Saturday night. Brister, a redshirt freshman, admitted that the team needed to be humbled after underestimating their opponent following a thrilling overtime win over Prairie View.
“We needed this humbleness coming off the PV win,” Brister confessed. “Coming back from Prairie View, we kind of got ahead of ourselves. We needed this loss to humble us.”
The Jaguars, now 2-3 on the season, were thoroughly outplayed by Nicholls, falling behind 24-0 in the first quarter and 51-0 by the end of the third. Quarterback Noah Bodden struggled with two early interceptions, while the defense could not contain Nicholls’ quarterback Pat McQuaide, who threw for four touchdowns and 402 yards.
Head coach Terrence Graves expressed frustration with the team’s lack of execution, particularly on defense. Despite emphasizing the importance of being prepared for the game, the Jaguars failed to deliver on the field.
“We have to figure out why guys are not where they’re supposed to be and doing what they’re supposed to be doing at all times,” Graves lamented.
Moving forward, Graves is determined to address the issues that led to one of the program’s worst home defeats.
“We definitely got to sit down, cut this thing open, look at it, and fix this in a hurry,” he vowed.
The Jaguars will need to regroup quickly as they look to bounce back from this humbling loss and refocus for the remainder of the season.
