“The Hill with April Ryan: Democratic Pollster Terrance Woodbury Discusses Economy and Black Voter Priorities”
Democratic pollster Terrance Woodbury, founder of HIT Strategies, recently sat down with “The Hill with April Ryan” to discuss the top concerns of American voters, particularly within the Black community. According to Woodbury, the economy is the number one issue on voters’ minds, with a general sentiment that “costs are too damn high.”
Woodbury emphasizes that Black Americans are not only concerned about inflation but also want to reduce costs in other areas such as medicine and student debt forgiveness. The Harris-Walz campaign, for which Woodbury is a surrogate, aims to address these concerns by increasing Black wealth and reducing the wealth gap between Black and White Americans.
Recent polls have shown that the economy is either the top or second issue for voters in the upcoming election. A survey by the NAACP found that over half of Black voters prioritize protecting rights and freedoms, while another poll highlighted concerns about low wages and the inability to sustain a family.
The Harris-Walz campaign’s agenda for an “opportunity economy” also focuses on supporting small businesses and increasing homeownership, particularly among Black Americans. Woodbury notes that Black homeownership rates have fallen to levels not seen since the Fair Housing Act was passed in 1968.
While the Harris-Walz campaign has outlined its economic plan for Black America, Republican candidate Donald Trump has yet to articulate his program for addressing these issues. With the economy playing a crucial role in the upcoming election, voters will be closely watching how each candidate plans to address their concerns.
