Black-Owned Twitter Alternative SPILL Gains Traction Amid Elon Musk’s Support for Trump

Elon Musk’s support for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has sparked outrage among many Black users of the social media platform X, leading to the creation of a new alternative called SPILL. With over 170 million daily active users on X, the backlash against Musk’s political stance has been swift and vocal.

In response to Musk’s controversial backing of Trump, Black users of X have sought to distance themselves from the platform and create a space where their voices can be heard without interference. This has led to the rise of SPILL, a Black-owned Twitter alternative founded by Alphonzo Terrell, a former employee of X who was laid off after Musk’s acquisition of the company.

Supported by actress Kerry Washington, SPILL has quickly gained traction, attracting over 200,000 users since its launch in 2022. The platform offers unique features such as SPILL Spades, a live multiplayer game that keeps users engaged for an average of 30 minutes.

Washington, who has invested in SPILL and hosted live conversations on the platform, has praised its focus on underrepresented groups. She believes that SPILL provides a much-needed space where marginalized communities can feel prioritized and heard.

Terrell, the co-founder of SPILL, is optimistic about the platform’s future and its potential to make a significant impact in the social media space. With a commitment to innovation and inclusivity, SPILL aims to carve out a niche for itself in a crowded digital landscape.
