Vince Staples Stars in Jayson Tatum’s New Jordan Sneaker Ad, Channels Spike Lee
In a hilarious new Jordan sneaker ad, Vince Staples takes on the role of the iconic Spike Lee to NBA star Jayson Tatum’s Michael Jordan. The 25-second clip, which premiered on Instagram, features Vince pestering Tatum to talk about the features of his new Tatum 3 signature sneaker.
Despite Vince’s best efforts to get Tatum to focus on the shoe’s tech benefits, the Celtics forward seems more interested in shooting hoops. Frustrated, Vince breaks the fourth wall and vents to the camera, exclaiming, “Fuck the tech benefits!”
The ad ends with a snippet of JAY-Z’s “Success,” adding even more Hip Hop flavor to the comedic clip. The homage to Michael Jordan and Spike Lee’s classic sneaker commercials from the ’80s and ’90s is evident, with Vince channeling his inner Mars Blackmon.
Not only is Tatum affiliated with Vince Staples, but he also drew inspiration from Kanye West during the Boston Celtics’ recent NBA championship win. Quoting Kanye’s iconic acceptance speech, Tatum celebrated the victory with a touch of self-belief.
As Vince Staples continues to make waves in the entertainment industry, fans can look forward to more of his comedic genius on Netflix. Following the success of The Vince Staples Show’s debut season, the streaming giant has renewed the series for a second season, much to the delight of fans and fellow rappers alike.
