Embracing Identity: Why Kamala Harris Must Lean into Her Historic Candidacy

Kamala Harris Urged to Lean into Identity to Secure Votes from Women of Color

As the 2024 election approaches, Kamala Harris is facing a crucial moment in her campaign. With just weeks to go until Election Day, a recent poll conducted by She the People and 2040 Strategy Group has revealed that Harris must lean into her identity to secure votes from women of color.

The poll found that while Black women over the age of 40 are showing historically high levels of support for Harris, many Asian American and Latina women still do not know enough about her to check her name on their ballot. To increase support and turnout from these key demographics, Harris must explicitly discuss her identity as a Black and Indian woman.

The poll also highlighted the importance of addressing key issues that resonate with women of color. Latina women, for example, are focused on the economy, gun violence, and immigration, while Asian American women are concerned about gun violence, immigration, and abortion rights. By tailoring her messaging to address these issues, Harris can expand her voter base and secure crucial support from undecided voters.

While some may view leaning into her identity as a risky strategy, the poll results suggest that it could be the key to securing victory in the upcoming election. Women of color have long been the unacknowledged base of the Democratic Party, and their support could be the deciding factor in Harris’ campaign.

As the first Black and Indian woman to run for president, Harris has the opportunity to make history and shatter another glass ceiling. By emphasizing her identity and addressing the issues that matter most to women of color, she can secure the support needed to win the election and pave the way for a new era of leadership in America.
