The Case of Two Black Men Acquitted of Sexual Assault Takes an Interesting Turn: Accuser Files Lawsuit Demanding $1 Million in Damages
The case of two Black men acquitted of the sexual assault of a white Texas woman has taken a dramatic turn as new lawsuits have been filed. In November 2023, Amanda Zawieruszynski accused John Marks and Freddie Douglas Jr. of sexually assaulting her in the pool at Marks’ home in Manvel, Texas. Despite the case being thrown out by a grand jury, Marks has now filed a lawsuit against Zawieruszynski, the City of Manvel, the Manvel Police Department, Police Chief Keith Traylor, and the two officers involved in the case.
Zawieruszynski, on the other hand, remains adamant that her claims of rape are true and has filed a lawsuit of her own seeking over $1 million in damages. She alleges that she was held captive, raped multiple times, and left with both internal and external injuries that required surgical intervention. The lawsuit also claims that the men forced liquor down her throat and refused to allow her to leave the pool or put her clothes on.
Despite Zawieruszynski’s allegations, Marks and Douglas were arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault a month after the incident. However, a jury declined to indict them in March 2024 after reviewing the evidence presented by the district attorney.
The legal battle continues as Zawieruszynski seeks justice and compensation for the alleged trauma she endured, while Marks and Douglas maintain their innocence. The outcome of these lawsuits remains uncertain as both parties stand firm in their positions.
