The Generational Divide of Black Men’s Support for Kamala Harris: A Discussion with TheGrio’s Gerren Keith Gaynor
The generational divide among Black men in their support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris was the topic of discussion on “CNN This Morning” with TheGrio’s White House Correspondent and Managing Editor of Politics, Gerren Keith Gaynor.
Gaynor highlighted the role of misinformation and disinformation in influencing the voting decisions of Black men under 50, with a quarter of them reportedly stating they will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, according to an NAACP survey. He emphasized the impact of social media as a source of news for millennials, where misinformation is rampant.
As the election approaches, Gaynor stressed the importance of journalists in providing the full story of both candidates so that Black voters can make informed decisions on Election Day. He also mentioned Kamala Harris’s recently released “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men,” which includes proposals for startup business loans and job advancement opportunities.
In contrast, Donald Trump has not released any policy agenda specifically targeting Black men. Gaynor was joined by panelists Alphonso David and Michael Franklin to further discuss the issue.
The conversation on CNN shed light on the complexities of Black voter preferences and the need for accurate information in shaping political decisions. With the election drawing near, the role of media in informing and empowering voters, particularly within the Black community, remains crucial.
