RZA Overcome with Emotion at ODB Documentary Premiere
RZA, the leader of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan, was visibly emotional at the premiere of the new Ol’ Dirty Bastard documentary, A Tale of Two Dirtys. The rapper was set to participate in a Q&A panel following the screening in Los Angeles, but decided to step back at the last minute due to overwhelming emotions.
In a video capturing the moment, RZA can be seen being called to the stage before quietly informing the panel that he won’t be able to participate. “I’m not gonna stay for the event; I got too many emotions running through my head,” he said gently. “I just want to thank you guys for a great — it’s my first time seeing the documentary for the first time completed so I got a lot in my head. But good job.”
RZA, who is also ODB’s cousin, then shared hugs with Dirty’s widow and son before leaving the stage. A Tale of Two Dirtys is the first official documentary about the late rap legend and features interviews with Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Mariah Carey, and close family and friends.
The film, directed by Sam and Jason Pollard, premiered on A&E on August 25. ODB’s widow, Icelene Jones, expressed her happiness about bringing her husband’s story to the screen, stating, “This project has let me know that he is alive and well in all of our hearts.”
Ol’ Dirty Bastard, born Russell Jones, passed away in 2004 at the age of 35. His son, Weather Park, recently spoke about the impact RZA has had on his life following his father’s death, highlighting the rapper’s guidance and support in navigating life’s challenges.
