South Carolina State Head Coach Chennis Berry Prepares to Face Florida A&M’s Home Winning Streak
South Carolina State head coach Chennis Berry is no stranger to winning streaks. During his time at Division II Benedict, Berry led the Tigers to an impressive 15 consecutive SIAC wins, including 11 straight victories in regular season home games. Now, in his first game as a Division I coach, Berry faces a formidable opponent in the Florida A&M Rattlers, who have not lost a home game in seven seasons.
This Saturday, Berry and the Bulldogs will take on the defending HBCU national champion Rattlers at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee. It marks the beginning of a new era for South Carolina State football post-Buddy Pough, and Berry is excited about the challenge ahead.
“It’s an unbelievable challenge for us as we get ready to go down to Tallahassee, Florida, for our young men to see where we are as a program,” said Berry. “Our young men are excited about the opportunity.”
On the other side, Florida A&M is coming off a thrilling 24-23 win over Norfolk State and will be looking to protect their impressive home winning streak, which is the second-longest in the FCS. The last time the Rattlers lost at Bragg was in 2018 against South Carolina State.
Both teams are gearing up for what promises to be an intense matchup, with FAMU head coach James Colzie III emphasizing the importance of maintaining their home field advantage. With both teams hungry for a win, Saturday’s game is sure to be one to watch.
