Delaware State Football Team Ends Losing Streak with Victory at Sacred Heart

The Delaware State football team broke their long losing streak with a thrilling 17-15 victory over FCS Independent Sacred Heart on Saturday night. It had been nearly a year since their last win and almost two years since they had beaten an FCS opponent, but the Hornets finally turned things around.

The key to their success was their ability to win the turnover battle, with the defense coming up big with two interceptions. Sophomore defensive back Wayne Favors III and Christian Garrett made crucial plays to halt Sacred Heart’s drives and set up scoring opportunities for the Hornets.

Grad transfer Jaden Sutton emerged as the lead running back for Delaware State, rushing for 142 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Quarterback Marqui Adams also played a smart game, managing the offense well and throwing his first touchdown pass of the season.

Kicker and punter Nathan Wilson played a crucial role in the victory, averaging 42.7 yards per punt and helping the Hornets win the field position battle. Veteran defenders Eric Montes and Maurio Goings made key plays in the final minutes to secure the win for Delaware State.

After a challenging start to the season with a cross-country trip to Hawai’i, the Hornets can now enjoy a well-deserved week off before their home opener against Wagner. The team’s resilience and determination have paid off, and they will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season.
