Florida Memorial Continues Dominance Over Edward Waters in Big Cat Classic

Florida Memorial University continued their dominance over Edward Waters University in the annual Big Cat Classic matchup, securing their third straight victory with a 31-21 win at Betty T. Ferguson Memorial Park in Miami Gardens.

The Lions took an early 24-0 lead in the third quarter, but Edward Waters fought back with 21 unanswered points, making for a tense finish. However, a late touchdown by Walter Wilbon sealed the deal for FMU.

Wilbon, a senior from Tampa, had a standout performance, rushing for 170 yards and all four of the Lions’ touchdowns. His impressive performance, coupled with Marcus Barthel’s 126 rushing yards, showcased FMU’s strong ground game.

On the defensive side, Kareem Roberts led the charge for FMU with seven tackles, 2 1/2 tackles for loss, and a sack, helping to stifle Edward Waters’ offense.

For Edward Waters, quarterback concerns arose as three different players took the field, with Keith Moore leaving the game due to injury. The Tigers will need to regroup as they prepare to face Alcorn State in their next matchup.

Both teams will need to quickly shift their focus to their upcoming games, with FMU preparing to take on Clark Atlanta and Edward Waters gearing up for a tough matchup against Alcorn State. The 2024 Big Cat Classic may be in the books, but the season is far from over for these two competitive teams.
