Tragic Details Unfold in North Georgia High School Shooting Incident

The small town of north Georgia is reeling from the tragic school shooting that took the lives of four individuals and left several others injured at Apalachee High School. The incident, which marks the first deadly school shooting of the year and the 23rd reported in 2024, has left the community in shock and mourning.

Among the victims was 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, whose family frantically searched for him amidst the chaos before tragically confirming his death. A GoFundMe page has been set up by loved ones, raising over $38,000 to support the family during this difficult time.

Another victim, special education math teacher David Phenix, was also injured in the attack and is currently in stable condition after undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds. His daughter took to social media to update friends and family on his recovery.

The shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, quickly surrendered to authorities and is now in custody at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center. Shockingly, it was revealed that Gray and his father were previously interviewed by the FBI following online threats of a school shooting, but no action was taken at the time.

As investigators work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy, the community is left grappling with questions about the motive behind the attack and the relationships between the gunman and his victims. The town of north Georgia mourns the loss of innocent lives and seeks justice for those affected by this senseless act of violence.
