Miami-Dade Schools Student and Mother Speak Out Against Security Officer’s Aggressive Actions
A Miami-Dade Schools student and her mother are speaking out against a security officer at Miami Edison Senior High School, claiming he used excessive force while breaking up a fight on the football field. The incident, captured on bystander video, shows 15-year-old Ikeria Tate being swung in the air and slammed hard on the ground by the officer. The video also shows the officer grabbing her by her braids as she tries to free herself.
According to an arrest report, Ikeria was not involved in the initial fight but tried to intervene when the officers responded. She was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and disrupting a school function. However, Ikeria denies trying to punch the officer and insists she was only trying to get him off her.
Ikeria’s mother, Monique Warner, stands behind her daughter, stating that the officer could have used less aggression in restraining her. Warner expressed her concern, saying, “He shouldn’t put his hands on nobody’s kids like that. You are supposed to help them. This is why the kids are scared of the law.”
The school police department is currently reviewing the incident, but there is no information yet on whether the officer will face disciplinary action. The community is awaiting further updates on the situation as the family seeks justice for what they believe was an unjust use of force.
