Howard University’s Homecoming and Forbes Ranking: A Year Not to Miss

Howard University’s Homecoming this year is set to be a must-attend event, with the school’s recent accolades and achievements adding to the excitement. Not only is one of Howard’s distinguished alumni running for President of the United States, but Forbes magazine has also ranked the university as the number one historically Black college and university (HBCU) in the country.

The Forbes list of top 500 colleges and universities in the United States includes six HBCUs, with Howard University leading the pack at 273rd place. This ranking highlights schools that produce successful, high-earning, and influential graduates from diverse economic backgrounds, all while keeping student debt low.

Howard University President Ben Vinson III, Ph.D, expressed pride in the school’s top ranking among HBCUs, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to intellectual discovery and global impact. The recognition comes at a crucial time as high school seniors navigate the college admissions process without affirmative action policies, leading to decreased Black student enrollment at many predominantly white institutions.

The Forbes list aims to alleviate some of the stress associated with college admissions by showcasing excellent schools with more inclusive acceptance rates. This year’s rankings feature 38 schools in the top 100 that admit more than 30% of applicants, providing options for students seeking quality education without the intense competition of elite universities.

As Howard University prepares to celebrate its Homecoming amidst these achievements, the campus buzzes with anticipation for a weekend of festivities that showcase the school’s rich history, vibrant culture, and bright future.
