Raygun Earns Title of World’s Best B-Girl in Surprising Turn of Events

Rachael “Raygun” Gunn Named Top Female B-Girl by World DanceSport Federation

After the debut of breakdancing at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, the World DanceSport Federation (WSDF) has stirred up controversy with their recent announcement of the top female B-girls in the game. Surprisingly, viral Australian breaker Rachael “Raygun” Gunn has claimed the number one spot, despite her less-than-stellar performance at the Olympics.

Gunn, who became a sensation on social media for her meme-worthy moves during the Olympic competition, defended her ranking by citing the lack of resources for breakdancers in Australia. She expressed her dedication to the sport and her disappointment in the backlash she received.

The WSDF clarified that their rankings are based on athletes’ performances in specific competitions over the past year, not necessarily their Olympic results. Raygun’s first place finish at the Oceania Continental Championships in Sydney in October 2023 earned her the top spot on the list.

However, many in the breaking community, including Zack Slusser of Breaking for Gold USA, believe that the WSDF rankings hold little significance. According to Slusser, the rankings do not accurately reflect the talent and skill of the breakers.

Despite the controversy surrounding her ranking, Rachael “Raygun” Gunn remains a prominent figure in the breakdancing world. As the sport continues to gain recognition on the global stage, it will be interesting to see how breakers like Gunn navigate the competitive landscape in the future.
