Vice President Kamala Harris to Participate in Interview Hosted by NABJ and WHYY
Vice President Kamala Harris is set to participate in an interview on Tuesday, hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and WHYY. The interview will be moderated by Gerren Keith Gaynor, the White House correspondent and managing editor of politics at theGrio.
Joining Gaynor as co-moderators will be Eugene Daniels, White House correspondent and Playbook co-author at Politico, and Tonya Mosley, co-host of NPR WHYY’s “Fresh Air.” The moderated conversation will take place in Philadelphia at WHYY Studios and will be live-streamed on TheGrio, NABJ, and WHYY’s YouTube and Facebook platforms.
This will be Harris’ third sit-down interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. NABJ President Ken Lemon expressed excitement for members and student journalists to hear from Vice President Harris and for the panel to ask tough questions that are important to the communities served by NABJ members.
The interview with Vice President Harris aims to inform the public and provide NABJ members with access to help inform their reporting. Lemon also highlighted the importance of providing real-time training for emerging storytellers through events like this.
Harris’ participation in an in-person interview with NABJ comes after rescheduling a panel discussion that was initially planned during the organization’s national convention in July. The interview with former President Donald Trump at the convention ended in controversy, but Lemon assured that the upcoming event with Harris will be handled with respect to journalistic principles.
As the first Black woman and first Indian American to be a party nominee, Harris has generated excitement around her historic candidacy. With record fundraising for her campaign, she faces questions on various policy issues from voters, including the economy, immigration, public safety, and healthcare.
TheGrio’s involvement in the Harris interview marks another milestone for the news organization, which secured a designated seat in the White House press briefing room in 2022. Viewers are encouraged to watch the conversation on TheGrio’s platforms as they prepare for the upcoming presidential election.
