Tragic Turn: Father Killed Trying to Break Up High School Catfight

A catfight between Florida high school students turned deadly when a father tried to intervene, resulting in a tragic outcome near a bus stop in Miami-Dade County.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday, Sept. 17, when a 15-year-old girl got into a verbal altercation with a classmate on their way home from Homestead Senior High School. The disagreement escalated into a physical fight after the student allegedly maced the girl and spat on her, as reported by CBS News.

Video footage captured the intense brawl in a driveway, with a crowd gathering around the two girls as they exchanged blows. After the girls were separated, two men began shoving each other before a shot rang out, striking 47-year-old Johnny Stevenson, the father of the 15-year-old girl and 13 other siblings.

Stevenson was attempting to de-escalate the situation when he was shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital and undergoing surgery, he tragically succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family devastated.

The shooter, identified as 22-year-old Kentarian Lamont Cross, turned himself in the following day and was charged with second-degree murder. While Cross claims self-defense, he was ordered to be held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
