Haitian Nonprofit Fights Back Against Trump and Running Mate’s Racist Claims with Criminal Charges
A Haitian nonprofit organization in Springfield, Ohio, is taking a stand against presidential hopeful Donald Trump and his running mate after they spread false and racist claims about Haitian immigrants in the area. The organization, Haitian Bridge Alliance, has filed criminal charges against Trump and his running mate for their baseless fearmongering that legal Haitian immigrants are stealing and eating people’s pets.
The charges, filed in Clark County Municipal Court, include disrupting public service, making false alarms, committing telecommunications harassment, committing aggravated menacing in violation, committing aggravated menacing, and violating the prohibition against complicity. These charges come after bomb threats at schools and city buildings in Springfield, causing fear and disruption in the community.
Lead counsel Subodh Chandra of the Cleveland-based Chandra law firm stated, “The Haitian community is suffering in fear because of Trump and Vance’s relentless, irresponsible, false alarms, and public services have been disrupted. Trump and Vance must be held accountable to the rule of law. Anyone else who wreaked havoc the way they did would have been arrested by now…They think they’re above the law. They’re not.”
The Haitian Bridge Alliance is seeking affirmation of probable cause and arrest warrants against Trump and his running mate. The court will hold a hearing as part of the legal process before deciding on the affidavit. This bold move by the Haitian organization sends a powerful message that false and harmful rhetoric will not be tolerated, and those who perpetuate it will face consequences.
