Black Woman Seeks Help from North Carolina Sheriff’s Department After Disturbing Interaction with MAGA Supporters

A Black woman’s disturbing encounter with a group of MAGA supporters at a political fair in Concord, NC, led her to seek help from the sheriff’s department, but she claims she was met with a backhanded racist comment from an officer.

Veleria Levy took to TikTok to share her experience, alleging that the MAGA group approached her booth at the fair and engaged in a heated debate, using hate-filled rhetoric towards her. When she tried to report the incident to the sheriff’s deputies present, she was told she needed video proof to prove her side of the story.

In a viral video, an officer is heard making offensive comments towards Levy, insinuating that her attitude was the reason for the dispute and making dismissive remarks about her race. The officer, identified as Capt. Chris Measimer, was immediately placed on administrative leave and faced disciplinary action by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.

Levy expressed satisfaction with the actions taken by the department, stating that she was contacted by the Professional Standards Division multiple times and received apologies for the officer’s behavior. She emphasized the importance of improving recruitment processes and implementing consistent diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings within the department.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office released a statement to The Root, acknowledging the need for continuous improvement in fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. Levy’s ordeal sheds light on the ongoing challenges faced by marginalized individuals in their interactions with law enforcement and the importance of holding officers accountable for their actions.
