Lupita Nyong’o’s Animated Film “The Wild Robot” Explores Themes of Motherhood and Adaptation
Lupita Nyong’o’s upcoming animated film with DreamWorks, “The Wild Robot,” is set to hit theaters on Friday, Sept. 27, and it promises to be a heartwarming tale that resonates with mothers everywhere. In the film, Nyong’o voices the character of Roz, a shipwrecked robot who finds herself responsible for a newly hatched duckling on a wild island.
The theme of motherhood in the film struck a chord with Nyong’o, causing her to reflect on her own parents and the sacrifices they made for her. She recalled a pivotal moment in her life when her parents sent her off to Mexico at the age of 16, a decision that she now realizes must have been incredibly difficult for them.
Nyong’o’s personal experiences living in Mexico also helped her connect with her character Roz, who must navigate her foreign surroundings on the island. The actress emphasized the importance of adapting to new environments while staying true to oneself, a lesson she learned during her time in Mexico.
Despite being her first starring role in an animated film, Nyong’o embraced the challenge of voicing Roz and bringing the character to life. However, the process of mastering Roz’s robotic voice took a toll on her vocal cords, temporarily preventing her from singing along at concerts.
As the release date for “The Wild Robot” approaches, Nyong’o took to Instagram to share the trailer and encourage audiences to experience the film on the big screen. With its themes of motherhood, adaptation, and self-discovery, “The Wild Robot” promises to be a touching and inspiring story for viewers of all ages.
