With the election just five weeks away, the Harris-Walz campaign is ramping up its efforts to highlight the stark differences between their health care policies and those of Donald Trump and JD Vance. The campaign recently released a report outlining what a second Trump administration would mean for millions of Americans currently insured under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

During the first debate against Kamala Harris, Trump struggled to articulate a plan for health care in the absence of the ACA, which he has long vowed to repeal. The Harris-Walz campaign’s report compiles policy positions and public statements from Trump and Vance, painting a grim picture of what their administration would mean for Black Americans who rely on the ACA for health coverage.

Jasmine Harris, director of Black Media for the campaign, emphasized the importance of protecting and expanding health care coverage for hard-working Americans, particularly Black Americans who have benefited from the ACA. She pointed out that Trump’s repeated attempts to repeal the ACA would result in millions of Black Americans losing their health insurance.

Experts warn that Trump’s proposed policies, including dismantling the ACA and cutting Medicaid funding, could disproportionately harm Black Americans and limit access to affordable care. The campaign’s report also highlights the potential impact of Trump’s proposed tariffs on imported goods, which could drive up drug prices for Black and Latino households.

In contrast, the Harris-Walz campaign aims to increase the insured rate among Black Americans and lower health care premiums. Kamala Harris has a track record of advocating for health equity and addressing racial disparities in health care, including maternal health and LGBTQ+ care.

As the election draws near, the debate over health care policy is heating up, with the Harris-Walz campaign putting Trump and Vance on the defensive over their record on this critical issue. Voters will have to weigh the candidates’ competing visions for health care as they head to the polls on November 5th.
