A 61-year-old man from Farmington Hills, Michigan, is facing serious charges after a disturbing incident involving a campaign flyer for Vice President Kamala Harris. Russell Valleau allegedly flew into a racist rage after receiving the flyer in his mailbox, targeting his Black mail carrier with violent threats.

According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, Valleau not only verbally attacked the mail carrier with racist slurs but also lunged at her with a knife. In self-defense, the mail carrier used pepper spray to stop him before Farmington Hills police arrived on the scene and arrested Valleau.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald condemned the incident, emphasizing that everyone has the right to their political opinions without fear of assault or threats based on race. Valleau now faces charges of ethnic intimidation, a felony, and assault and battery, a misdemeanor. If convicted, he could spend up to two years in prison for the felony and 93 days in jail for the misdemeanor.

The shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the tensions surrounding the upcoming primary election and the importance of respecting differing political views without resorting to violence or hate speech. The Farmington Hills community is left reeling from the incident, hoping for justice to be served in this troubling case.
