Fat Joe Launches PSA Urging Healthcare Price Transparency
Fat Joe Leads Campaign for Healthcare Price Transparency
Grammy-nominated artist Fat Joe has joined forces with American workers, union members, employers, and patient advocates in a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) titled “Power to the Patients.” The PSA calls on political leaders across the country to prioritize healthcare price transparency in order to create a more affordable and equitable healthcare system.
The urgency of the message stems from the fact that over 100 million Americans are currently burdened with medical debt, which is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. The lack of transparency in hospital and insurer pricing has led to massive variations in healthcare costs, often without patients being aware. For example, the cost of the same medical service can vary significantly, with an MRI ranging from $300 to $3,000 and a knee replacement costing anywhere from $19,000 to $168,000, depending on the hospital or insurance plan.
Fat Joe emphasized the importance of healthcare price transparency, stating, “If you’re not advocating for prices and transparency in healthcare… you are compromising every single American across this country.” The call for transparency is not just about cost, but also about improving quality and accountability in the healthcare system.
The PSA is part of an ongoing advocacy campaign by “Power to the Patients” to drive legislative action. A bipartisan group of senators has recently introduced legislation to strengthen and expand price transparency requirements.
Founded in 2021, “Power to the Patients” is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for price transparency and accountability in healthcare. Fat Joe’s PSA aims to amplify the voices of millions of Americans demanding change and urging lawmakers to enforce vital transparency measures.
