Former N.Y. Gov. David Paterson and Stepson Attacked While Walking Dog in NYC

Former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Chester Sliwa, found themselves in a dangerous situation while out walking their dog in their New York City neighborhood. What started as a simple confrontation with three individuals climbing a building quickly escalated into a physical attack.

According to reports, the three juveniles involved in the initial confrontation returned with backup, totaling about nine people. Despite being outnumbered, Paterson and Sliwa stood their ground and defended themselves against their attackers. Paterson, who is legally blind, even managed to throw one of the assailants against a McDonald’s window.

The altercation resulted in injuries to both Sliwa and Paterson, with the attackers fleeing the scene before authorities arrived. Two of the juveniles later turned themselves in and are now facing second-degree assault charges.

Despite the harrowing experience, Paterson expressed his love for New York City, where he has lived for most of his life. The 70-year-old, who became New York’s first Black governor in 2008, emphasized that the incident would not change his feelings towards the city.

In the end, Paterson and Sliwa walked away from the confrontation with only minor injuries. Their bravery in standing up for what they believed was right serves as a reminder that even public figures are not immune to physical attacks in their own communities.
