Nelly Faces $50 Million Lawsuit from St. Lunatics, But Members Reportedly Not on Board

Grammy-winning rapper Nelly is currently embroiled in a legal battle with his former group St. Lunatics, who are suing him for a whopping $50 million. However, it seems that the lawsuit is not supported by all members of the collective, with only Ali Jones backing the legal action.

The St. Louis group claims that Nelly failed to credit them for their contributions to his 2000 debut album Country Grammar, which was a massive success and has since been certified diamond. Despite this, Nelly’s attorney has revealed that the other three members of the group — Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, and City Spud — did not authorize their inclusion in the lawsuit.

In fact, Lee, Kyjuan, and Spud have reportedly hired Nelly’s lawyer to represent them and are threatening legal action against Ali if their names are not removed from the suit. The trio was allegedly surprised by the lawsuit, as they are still on good terms with Nelly and recently performed with him at the 2024 American Music Awards, where Ali was notably absent.

This legal drama comes after Ali publicly stated in 2023 that he would never perform with Nelly again due to money he claims the group is owed. Despite the ongoing feud, Nelly recently sold half of his music publishing catalog for a reported $50 million, a move that Ali believes is indicative of Nelly’s true intentions.

As the lawsuit continues to unfold, fans are left wondering about the future of St. Lunatics and their relationship with Nelly. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
