Vice President Kamala Harris Calls Out Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Over Hurricane Response
As Hurricane Milton threatens the state of Florida, tensions rise between Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Ron DeSantis over the handling of the impending disaster. In a fiery interview with The View, Harris criticized DeSantis for seemingly ignoring her calls for assistance.
“We have to work together to combine resources, especially federal, state, and local resources, around these kinds of disasters,” Harris emphasized. “It’s a shame that hasn’t happened.”
DeSantis, on the other hand, claimed he was unaware of Harris’s attempts to reach out. “I didn’t know that she had called,” he stated during a press conference in Tallahassee. However, he did acknowledge speaking with President Joe Biden to secure resources for Floridians in preparation for the storm.
The White House confirmed DeSantis’s conversation with Biden but dismissed his claims about Harris. Senior assistant White House press secretary Emilie Simons urged both DeSantis and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor to reach out directly if further support was needed.
As Florida braces for Hurricane Milton, the clash between Harris and DeSantis highlights the challenges of coordinating disaster response efforts. With lives at stake, the need for cooperation and communication between federal and state authorities is more crucial than ever.
