Buku Abi Opens Up About Alleged Sexual Abuse by Father R. Kelly in New Documentary

Buku Abi, the daughter of R&B singer R. Kelly, has bravely come forward with shocking allegations of sexual abuse at the hands of her own father. In the newly released documentary “R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey,” Abi, legally named Joanne Kelly, revealed the heartbreaking truth about her past.

In the documentary, Abi disclosed that the abuse began when she was just eight or nine years old, and she finally mustered the courage to tell her mother about it in 2009 when she was 10. The abuse allegedly continued for years, leaving Abi feeling scared and helpless.

Despite filing a complaint with the police, the statute of limitations had expired, and R. Kelly could not be prosecuted for the alleged crimes. Abi’s story mirrors that of her mother and siblings, who have also accused R. Kelly of abuse.

In response to the documentary, R. Kelly vehemently denied the allegations through his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, stating that the claims were unfounded and that the filmmakers did not give him the opportunity to defend himself.

Abi’s bravery in coming forward with her story sheds light on the dark reality of sexual abuse and the devastating impact it can have on families. Her courage in speaking out serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of believing and supporting survivors of abuse.
