R. Kelly’s Daughter Alleges Sexual Abuse in New Documentary
In a shocking revelation, R. Kelly’s daughter, Buki Abi, has come forward with allegations of sexual abuse by her father in a new documentary titled “R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey.” The two-part documentary, now streaming on TVEI Network, delves into Abi’s claims that Kelly sexually abused her when she was just 8 or 9 years old.
Abi tearfully recalls waking up to her father touching her and feeling scared and unsure of what to do. She kept the abuse a secret for years, eventually confiding in her mother, Andrea Kelly, when she was 10 years old. Despite filing a complaint with local police, no further action was taken, leaving Abi feeling like her voice went unheard.
Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, denies the allegations, stating that they were previously investigated and found to be unfounded. However, Abi’s story sheds light on the impact of delayed disclosure of sexual abuse and the lasting effects it can have on survivors.
Now 26 years old and expecting her first child, Abi has no plans to introduce her father to her child, believing that prison is a “well-suited place” for him. The documentary also explores the aftermath of Kelly’s convictions on Abi and her family, including struggles with self-harm and suicidal ideation.
“R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey” is a powerful and emotional look at the impact of sexual abuse and the importance of speaking out. If you suspect child abuse, contact the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline or the National Sexual Assault Hotline for support.
