Mayor Tiffany Henyard Faces Backlash for Disrupting Dolton Board Meeting
Dolton, Ill. Mayor Tiffany Henyard found herself in hot water once again as she made headlines for her dramatic entrance at a recent board meeting. The meeting, held to address the village’s deficit, quickly turned into a showdown between Henyard and the village trustees.
Residents of Dolton were in attendance as Henyard arrived an hour late, dressed in a bold Barbie pink ensemble, ready to “lay down the law.” However, her veto on decisions made by the trustees was met with boos and jeers from the audience.
The trustees, seeking former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s help, are investigating how Henyard allowed the village’s General Fund to end up with a negative balance of $3.65 million last year. This year, the deficit stands at $2.8 million. Among their decisions to address the deficit, they agreed to halt the lease of “high-profile” vehicles and sell the village’s fitness center.
Henyard’s spending habits have come under scrutiny, with reports of her spending over $43,000 in one day on Amazon and increasing the police budget significantly. Allegations have surfaced that she may have been using the police force as her own private security.
The village is now under federal investigation, though details of the probe have not been disclosed. With tensions running high in Dolton, residents and trustees alike are growing increasingly frustrated with Henyard’s actions and are eager for a resolution to the ongoing financial crisis.
