Brother of Denver Nuggets Star Michael Porter Jr. Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Fatal DUI

DENVER, COLORADO – In a tragic turn of events, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. has been sentenced to six years in prison for a fatal DUI incident. Coban Porter, found guilty of DUI vehicular homicide, admitted to crashing into and killing Kathy Rothman in the early hours of the morning on January 22nd. The victim, a mother and Uber driver, was working at the time of the accident.

As part of a plea agreement, Porter will serve six years in prison, with the judge sentencing him to two charges to run concurrently. The victim’s mother, Connie Johnson, expressed her devastation over the ruling, stating, “This pain and trauma has become my worst reality. My life ended along with my sweet, innocent daughter.” The family has also filed lawsuits, one of which alleges that the bar where Porter was drinking overserved him.

During his testimony, Porter admitted that this was not his first time driving drunk and acknowledged that the crime was not an accident. Despite being described as a good person and gifted basketball player by family and friends, Porter expressed deep regret for his actions. “All I can really say is ‘I’m sorry,'” he said. “I hope that somehow, someway, I’ll be able to make a difference.”

In a separate incident, Jontay Porter, another brother of Michael and Coban, was recently banned from the NBA for life due to violating the league’s betting policies. The Porter family is facing a series of challenges, with both legal and personal consequences to navigate in the wake of these events.
