“I Never Really Knew You …” Art Exhibition for Mental Health Awareness Month
The exhibit “I Never Really Knew You …” curated by Art Genesis founder Mashonda Tifrere is making waves in the art world during Mental Health Awareness Month. The dual exhibit features a six-artist group exhibition and a solo exhibit by L.A. based artist Lanise Howard, showcasing her latest body of work titled “M.U.S.E. Miss. Understood. Sensuality. Economized.”
The exhibit delves into the complexities of the ego and serves as a visual journal of self-awakening and truth. Artists Tonia Calderon, Swoon, Dionne Simpson, Malik Roberts, Amani Lewis, and Calvin Clausell Jr. have contributed works that span various genres and mediums, inviting viewers to explore their individual creative processes, growth, and diverse voices.
Tifrere emphasizes the impact of the ego on mental, emotional, and physical health, stating that it is the master of disguise. The exhibit challenges viewers to confront their own egos and remove the masks that hide their truths, ultimately leading to self-realization and alignment with life’s wonders.
“I Never Really Knew You …” will be on display at Praz-Delavallade in Los Angeles from May 15 to June 1, with gallery hours on Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. This thought-provoking exhibit offers a unique opportunity for viewers to engage with the transformative power of art and self-realization.
