Akademiks Accused of Brutally Raping Woman in New Lawsuit

The controversial podcaster Akademiks, whose real name is Livingston Allen, has been named in a civil lawsuit filed by a woman in Essex County, NJ, accusing him of both rape and defamation. The woman, identified as Ziya Abashe, alleged that in July 2022, Akademiks invited her to his house where she was drugged, forcibly drunk, and raped by him and two of his friends.

Abashe reported the alleged rape to the police, but Akademiks allegedly began defaming her by accusing her of participating in an “orgy” with the two men and denying his own involvement. In a lawsuit filed by her attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, Abashe claimed that the sexual assault caused her significant physical and psychological pain, loss of dignity, and invasion of privacy.

In December 2023, Abashe broke her silence about the accusations on Instagram Live, describing in detail the alleged sexual assault and refuting Akademiks’ claims. Following the news of the lawsuit, Akademiks deactivated his Instagram account, and it is unclear if this action is related to the filing.

This is not the first time Akademiks has faced issues with a romantic partner. In 2022, a video surfaced showing him in a physical altercation with an ex-girlfriend, where he was seen shouting aggressively at her.

HipHopDX has reached out to Abashe’s attorney and Akademiks for comment on the situation. If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, help is available through organizations like RAINN.
