Mike WiLL Made-It Calls for Originality in Music Production

Renowned producer Mike WiLL Made-It is calling out artists for their lack of originality in hit-making. In a series of tweets on X, he expressed his frustration with the current trend of remaking iconic songs instead of creating new music.

“Sick of hearing remakes,” Mike WiLL tweeted. “Nothing like original shxt.” He also criticized older artists for featuring on remakes of their own classic songs, calling it a pet peeve of his.

While he didn’t name any specific artists, recent examples include Usher jumping on a sample of his own song “You Make Me Wanna…” on Summer Walker’s “Come Thru,” and Fergie performing alongside Jack Harlow at the VMA’s for his song “First Class,” which sampled her hit “Glamorous.”

Mike WiLL Made-It placed the blame on the artists themselves, stating that record labels are only concerned with moving units and don’t care about the music. He emphasized that it’s up to the production company or independent artists to prioritize originality.

His sentiments were echoed by fellow producer Sonny Digital, who emphasized the importance of creating new hits instead of relying on remakes of already successful songs.

With these influential producers speaking out, it’s clear that the industry needs to shift its focus back to original music. Hopefully, more high-profile artists will take note and strive for creativity in their future projects.
