Travis Scott Settles Last Remaining Astroworld Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Travis Scott has settled the last remaining wrongful death lawsuit against him in the 2021 Astroworld concert tragedy. Rolling Stone reported that Scott West, an attorney for the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, confirmed the agreement with Scott and LiveNation.
Blount was the youngest of the 10 victims who died in a crowd crush during Scott’s performance at the festival. The family will continue to heal but never forget the joy Ezra brought to everyone around him, West said in an email statement. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The settlement of Blount’s case comes after it was announced that Scott had to appear in court in September 2024 for the trial. The Blount case was set to be heard before State District Judge Kristen Hawkins on September 10, 2024.
The lawsuit filed by Blount’s family is one of ten total cases against Scott and others involved in the Astroworld tragedy. Last week, it was announced that Blount’s case was the only wrongful death suit that didn’t reach a settlement agreement. All others have been settled confidentially, while around 2,400 injury cases remain active.
In March, Scott’s attorneys argued that the responsibility for fans’ safety lies with event organizers and venue staff, not performing artists. The attorneys stated that Scott and his team supported efforts to eliminate risks at the festival site and followed directions to end the show as directed.
The settlement brings some closure to the tragic events of Astroworld, but the impact of the tragedy will be felt for years to come.
