Tragedy Strikes as Missing 4-Year-Old Autistic Boy Found Dead in Minnesota Creek

The search for a missing 4-year-old autistic boy in Minnesota has ended in tragedy, as authorities announced that Waeys Mohamed’s body was found deceased in a creek, likely from accidental drowning. The heartbreaking discovery was made by a civilian volunteer, just 500 yards from Waeys’ apartment building in Hopkins.

Waeys was last seen alive on Sunday morning, wearing only blue pajama pants. His family described him as nonverbal and easily startled by loud noises. The community rallied together to search for the young boy, with multiple law enforcement agencies, first responder units, drone pilots, and civilian volunteers joining the effort.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Waeys’ death, trying to determine whether he walked into the creek or fell in. Hopkins Police Department Captain Craig Krieling emphasized that there is no evidence to suggest foul play at this time.

The Hopkins community is now in mourning, as they remember Waeys as a vibrant, funny, and kind-hearted young boy who brought joy to everyone around him. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to support his single mother during this difficult time.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of autistic children, with drownings accounting for a significant portion of accidental deaths in this population. The National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children reported 286 cases of missing autistic children in 2021, highlighting the importance of community support and vigilance in keeping these children safe.
