Preemptive Action Stops Planned Mass Shooting Targeting Minorities

In a small town in Arizona, a potentially devastating mass shooting plot was thwarted thanks to the quick actions of law enforcement. Mark Prieto, a 58-year-old man, was indicted on charges of firearms trafficking, transfer of a firearm for use in a hate crime, and possession of an unregistered firearm after his plans to commit a mass shooting targeting African Americans and other minorities were uncovered.

Prieto had been in discussions with two individuals who were actually working with the FBI, unbeknownst to him. He had planned to carry out the attack at a rap concert, hoping to incite a race war just as the country was gearing up for the 2024 presidential election. However, law enforcement was able to track his movements and apprehend him before he could carry out his deadly plan.

On May 14, 2024, Prieto was stopped by law enforcement while driving through New Mexico, where he was found in possession of seven firearms. A search of his home in Prescott revealed even more firearms, including an unregistered short-barreled rifle. It was clear that Prieto was serious about his intentions to cause harm.

Thanks to the vigilance of the FBI and law enforcement, a potential tragedy was averted. Prieto now faces significant prison time for his actions, serving as a reminder of the importance of preemptive measures in stopping mass shootings. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they are safe from this threat, at least for now.
