Manhunt Ends: Neighbor Arrested in Shooting Death of Local Boxing Champ

The tight-knit community of Anne Arundel County was rocked by tragedy on Monday evening when local boxing champion Isaiah Olugbemi was found shot to death in his own home. The promising 27-year-old athlete, who had dreams of going professional, was gunned down in a brutal attack that shocked his friends, family, and fans.

Within hours of the discovery, Anne Arundel County police launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was quickly identified as Nicholas Francis Xavier Giroux, Olugbemi’s next-door neighbor. Giroux, who allegedly had a history of threatening the boxer, was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon in connection to the murder.

According to police reports, surveillance footage captured Giroux approaching Olugbemi with a handgun and firing multiple shots at close range before fleeing the scene on foot. The brutal nature of the attack led prosecutors to describe it as an execution.

Friends and family of Olugbemi were left reeling from the news, with one friend recalling the last text he sent to the boxer congratulating him on his recent victory. Meanwhile, Giroux’s defense attorney claimed his client had been harassed by individuals in the neighborhood, but Olugbemi’s brother countered that Giroux had threatened the boxer with a gun on multiple occasions.

Giroux has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree murder and is currently being held in county jail without bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 17 as the community grapples with the loss of a talented athlete and loving father.
