Eddie Murphy Reveals Secrets Behind His Iconic Laugh as He Returns to Beverly Hills Cop Role

As Eddie Murphy gears up for the release of “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” on Netflix on July 3, the legendary actor is opening up about his journey to superstardom and the changes he has made along the way.

One of the most notable changes fans have noticed is the disappearance of Murphy’s iconic laugh, which he intentionally altered to avoid being pigeonholed by it. In a recent interview with CBR, Murphy explained, “In the ’80s, I was like, I don’t wanna be known for a laugh. I noticed some people would do an impression of me, and if somebody was doing an impression, that’s all they did was they’d laugh.”

The “Saturday Night Live” alum expressed his disdain for the countless impressions of him that focused solely on his laugh, rather than his diverse range of characters. To break away from this stereotype, Murphy made a conscious effort to change his laugh, a challenging task that required him to force himself to stop laughing in his signature way.

In the upcoming film, Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills to rescue his daughter, played by Taylour Paige, with the help of familiar faces like Rosewood, Taggart, and Serge. New additions to the cast include Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon.

For fans looking to revisit the original films before the new release, the first two movies are currently available on Netflix, while all three can be streamed on Paramount+. “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” promises to be a thrilling continuation of the beloved franchise when it premieres next month.
