Former Bowie State Football Player AJ Lytton Dies in Tragic Car Crash

Former Bowie State football player AJ Lytton was tragically identified as one of three men who lost their lives in a car crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The 2023 transfer student from Penn State and Florida State was in the vehicle with 2024 Minnesota Vikings draft pick Khyree Jackson and former University of Maryland football player Isaiah Hazel, all of whom were former teammates at Wise High School.

The Maryland State Police provided details of the crash, which involved three vehicles – a silver Infinity Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala, and a maroon Dodge Charger. Hazel was driving the Charger with Jackson in the front seat and Lytton in the back. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Infinity attempted to change lanes at a high speed, causing a collision with the Charger and the Impala. The Charger then veered off the road and struck multiple tree stumps.

Tragically, Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene, while Lytton succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The occupants of the other vehicles involved in the crash escaped uninjured. Alcohol was suspected to have played a role in the accident, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The loss of these young men has sent shockwaves through the community, as they were not only talented athletes but also beloved friends and teammates. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the efforts to determine the cause of this devastating tragedy.
