Meagan Good Channels Personal Experience in Empowering Film ‘Divorce in the Black’ Directed by Tyler Perry

Meagan Good, known for her acting prowess and personal journey through divorce, is set to bring a powerful message to audiences in her upcoming film, “Divorce in the Black.” Drawing from her own experience of divorce from ex-husband DeVon Franklin, Good is teaming up with Cory Hardrict in this Tyler Perry-directed feature.

The film follows Ava, a young professional devastated by her husband Dallas’ decision to leave their marriage. As Ava uncovers Dallas’ deceitful actions that shattered their relationship, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Good, speaking at Essencefest, shared how working with Tyler Perry allowed her to tap into a vulnerable and raw side of herself that she hadn’t explored before.

Despite not personally relating to all of Ava’s struggles, Good drew inspiration from friends’ experiences and her own life to authentically portray the character’s journey. She emphasized the importance of turning painful experiences into sources of empowerment, highlighting the idea that life unfolds in acts, with each chapter offering the opportunity for growth and transformation.

“Divorce in the Black” is set to premiere on Prime Video on July 11, offering audiences a compelling story of resilience, self-discovery, and empowerment. Good’s portrayal of Ava promises to showcase her growth as an actress and her ability to bring depth and authenticity to complex characters.
