Black Army Veteran Demands Answers After Arrest by NYPD for Carrying Licensed Firearm

The New York Police Department is facing backlash after the arrest of Raffique Khan, a retired U.S. Army member and Purple Heart veteran, for carrying a firearm. Khan, who claims he was licensed to carry, is demanding answers as to why he was arrested in the first place.

According to Khan, he was sitting in a car with a friend outside a family member’s house when they were pulled over by plain clothes officers in an unmarked police car. Despite informing the officers about his weapon and its registration, Khan alleges that he was ordered out of the car and subsequently arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and possession of pistol ammunition.

After spending a night in custody, Khan’s charges were dismissed in February when the District Attorney verified his weapons permit. Now, Khan is seeking justice for what he believes was a wrongful arrest and racial discrimination.

Khan has filed a lawsuit against the NYPD, the city of New York, Mayor Eric Adams, and several police officials, alleging that he was denied his Second Amendment rights. His attorney, Cory Morris, claims that Khan faced difficulties in getting his firearm back, which was returned damaged with suspicious engravings.

Khan is set to appear in front of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn for a follow-up hearing on July 11th. Despite the challenges he has faced, Khan remains steadfast in his love for his country and his commitment to seeking justice for the treatment he received.
