Rage Erupts in Lower East Side Over Discovery of Yazmeen Williams’ Body
The discovery of the body of Yazmeen Williams inside a sleeping bag last weekend sent shockwaves of rage across the lower east side of New York City. The 31-year-old Buffalo State University graduate was found between Second and Third avenues on Friday just before 5 p.m. The NYPD responded to a report of a suspicious package on the curb and discovered Williams’ remains, ruling her cause of death as a gunshot to the head.
Police launched a homicide investigation and identified the suspect as 55-year-old Chad Irish, who resided in Williams’ neighborhood of Kips Bay. The community was outraged by the heinous crime and when Irish was taken into custody, the anger boiled over. The man, who uses a wheelchair, was being transferred to a gurney when a crowd of angry community members gathered, screaming and trying to attack him.
Video footage captured the intense emotions as family and friends of Yazmeen unleashed their fury on the suspect. Despite Irish pleading his innocence, he was charged with concealment of a corpse. The motive for the killing remains unknown, leaving Williams’ family grieving the loss of a promising future she had ahead of her.
