Dr. Larry Robinson to Step Aside as Florida A&M President
After nearly 7 years at the helm of Florida A&M University, Dr. Larry Robinson is stepping aside as president, as announced in a press release posted on FAMU’s social media account. The news comes after a tumultuous spring where Robinson faced scrutiny over a questionable donation and university policies.
The phantom donation, allegedly worth 237 million dollars from a mysterious hemp farmer, raised eyebrows and led to questions about the university’s gift acceptance procedures. Despite the challenges, Robinson plans to return to his role as a distinguished professor in FAMU’s School of Environment.
Chairperson of the Florida A&M Board of Trustees, Kristin Harper, expressed gratitude for Robinson’s service and noted the university’s achievements under his leadership. Florida A&M has been recognized as a Top 100 University and the No. 1 Public HBCU for the fifth consecutive year.
In a letter published on Friday, Robinson thanked the FAMU community for their support and engagement during his tenure. He acknowledged both advocates and critics, expressing appreciation for their prayers, friendship, and wisdom.
The board of trustees will convene to determine the next steps for the university in light of Robinson’s departure. As Florida A&M looks towards the future, the legacy of Dr. Larry Robinson’s presidency will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the institution.
