Black Women Demand Democratic Party Leadership Support President Biden: Letter Organizers

A growing list of more than 2,600 Black women have signed a letter to Democratic Party leadership, urging them not to abandon President Joe Biden amid calls for him to suspend his reelection campaign. The organizers of the letter, including civil rights leader Melanie L. Campbell, believe that ousting the 81-year-old president would be a betrayal to Black women across the country.

Campbell emphasized the hard work and dedication Black women put into ensuring the Biden-Harris administration’s victory and the gains they have made. She stated that removing Biden would have negative consequences and undermine Black women’s trust in the Democratic Party.

The letter argues against pushing Biden aside over a single debate performance and calls for respecting the will of millions of voters who supported him. LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter Fund, expressed skepticism towards unsourced reports about Democratic conversations regarding Biden’s future, emphasizing the importance of Black women’s voices in the political process.

The Black women leaders are prepared to fight on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris, who is facing political and personal attacks. They believe that Biden has kept his promises to Black women and voters, citing his diverse administration and support for key issues affecting the community.

Ultimately, the letter’s supporters believe that the threat of a second Trump administration outweighs concerns about Biden’s age. They stress the importance of practicality and pragmatism in voting decisions, highlighting the impact of democracy on Black communities. The Black women leaders are determined to make their voices heard and ensure their electoral power is respected.
