Rakim Requests Collaboration with Will Smith for “Summertime” Sequel

Legendary rapper Rakim has reached out to Will Smith for a collaboration after the Men in Black star admitted to trying to emulate Rakim’s style on his hit song “Summertime.” Smith made the confession during a CBS TV special last year, revealing that he was instructed to give the producer some “Rakim shit” for the track.

After reposting the clip on Instagram to celebrate the anniversary of his album Homebase, Rakim commented, suggesting a “Summertime PT 2” with him on it. While Smith has yet to respond, fans are already excited about the potential collaboration.

Rakim has long been linked to “Summertime,” with rumors suggesting he wrote the song for Smith. However, Rakim clarified in a 2016 interview that he did not write the track, but rather sampled it with Eric B. and had it ready to go before Smith released it.

Both Rakim and Smith are gearing up for their musical comebacks this year. Rakim is set to release his first album in 15 years, featuring collaborations with hip-hop legends like Snoop Dogg and Method Man. Smith is also preparing for his first full-length release in almost a decade, starting with the uplifting single “You Can Make It.”

As fans eagerly await the potential “Summertime” sequel, it’s clear that both Rakim and Smith are ready to make their mark on the music scene once again.
