Manhattan DA Demands Trump’s Appeal be Thrown Out in Hush Money Case

Former President Donald Trump’s legal troubles continue to mount as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg pushes for his hush money conviction to stand, despite Trump’s claims of immunity. In a bold move, Bragg filed a 69-page brief demanding Judge Juan Merchan reject Trump’s appeal and uphold the 34 felony convictions.

The crux of the matter lies in whether Trump’s actions are protected by the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. Trump’s lawyers argue that evidence from a White House meeting during his presidency should not have been admitted in court, thus invalidating the convictions. However, Bragg maintains that the evidence in question pertains to unofficial conduct and is not covered by any immunity.

Trump’s lawyer, Todd Blanche, has requested the opportunity to respond to what he calls the DA’s “legal and factual misrepresentations.” The sentencing, originally set for July 11, has been postponed until at least Sept. 18 to allow Judge Merchan time to review the arguments.

The case stems from allegations that Trump falsified business records related to a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election. Trump was convicted on all counts in May, marking a historic moment as the first former president to face criminal charges.

As the legal battle rages on, all eyes are on Judge Merchan, who is expected to deliver a ruling on the matter by Sept. 6. The question remains: can Donald Trump serve as president from prison? Only time will tell.
