KAYTRANADA’s Missed Opportunity with Drake’s “Honestly, Nevermind” Album: A Look Back
KAYTRANADA Revisits The Story Of Almost Working On Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind
In the ongoing saga of Drake hate in 2024, KAYTRANADA recently shed some light on a missed opportunity to collaborate with the 6ix God on his 2022 house album, Honestly, Nevermind. In a new interview with Vulture, the Canadian producer revealed how Drake’s team once approached him at a Coachella after-party in L.A. to produce beats for the album.
Despite KAYTRANADA expressing that it would have been an honor to work with Drake, the collaboration never materialized. The producer recalled how his casual response of “Sure, hit me up” may have lacked the enthusiastic reaction that Drizzy’s camp was looking for. KAYTRANADA explained, “Was I supposed to be like, ‘Oh my God, for real? Drake?’ I’m not like that.”
This isn’t the first time KAYTRANADA has discussed the missed opportunity. In a previous interview with MONTREALITY, he mentioned how he met Drake in L.A. and was approached to work on the house album. Despite expressing interest in collaborating, KAYTRANADA never heard from Drake again.
While this missed opportunity may not have led to any beef between the two artists, fans can’t help but wonder what could have been. KAYTRANADA’s unique production style has been praised in the industry, and many believe that a collaboration with Drake could have resulted in some musical magic.
As fans continue to speculate on what could have been, one thing is for sure: the potential for a Drake and KAYTRANADA collaboration is still alive. Perhaps in the future, these two Canadian artists will come together to create something truly special for their fans to enjoy.
